Before Departure

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: All bookings for unaccompanied minors must be done over the phone with Brindabella Airlines, a booking fee will apply for all bookings - contact 1300 668 824 during office hours. You must have details of who will be dropping the child off and picking them up at each port ready at the time of booking. Please note that unaccompanied minors will not be accepted to board a flight unless the booking was made over the phone and the relevant paperwork has been completed. We cannot accept an unaccompanied minor if they are coming off a connecting flight or going onto a connecting flight with our airline or another carrier.

Children under 5 years

Children under 5 years of age cannot travel as unaccompanied minors and therefore must be accompanied by a person 16 years or over who is an immediate family member or who has written permission from the child's parent, guardian or responsible adult (carer).

5 to 11 years (inclusive)

Children between 5 years and 11 years of age can be booked as unaccompanied minors - and this must be done over the phone with Brindabella Airlines, a booking fee will apply.

12 to 15 years (inclusive)

Children aged between 12 and 15 years can travel as normal passengers or as unaccompanied minors. If you want your child to travel as an unaccompanied minor, the booking must be made over the phone, a booking fee will apply and the relevant paperwork completed. If no request is made, no special arrangements will apply.

At the Airport

You will need to arrive at the airport in good time for your child's check-in. When you arrive at the airport, make sure all the details on the unaccompanied minor wallet have been completed and identify your child to the check-in agent as an unaccompanied minor.

The check-in agent will introduce your child to the flight's First Officer or Cabin Crew Assistant, who will escort your child at both ends of the flight. You must stay at the departure gate until the flight has taken off. On arrival, the First Officer will leave your child in the care of the person nominated by you to meet them. This person must provide proof of identification before your child is handed over to them.

PLEASE NOTE: The Terms and Conditions of carriage of an unaccompanied minor include the requirement that carers must take responsibility for collecting an unaccompanied minor if a flight is cancelled - even if the child is at a port other than the departure or arrival port.

In Transit

Brindabella Airlines will not take unaccompanied minors who have connecting flights with any other airline.

Should an unaccompanied minor not be met at a stopover point or destination, Brindabella Airlines will take whatever action it considers necessary to ensure the child's safe custody including return of the child to the airport of departure. Brindabella Airlines will seek reimbursement for the costs and expenses incurred in taking such action. For more information please contact 1300 668 824.

Special Notes

Encourage your child to take a favourite small toy or doll on the flight, and charge them with the responsibility of looking after it throughout the journey. This will help your child feel more secure and 'at home'.
